Seminar: Justice and Compassion in Buddhist and Christian Traditions

The National Endowment for the Humanities is sponsoring a seminar for college
teachers to be held at Brown University entitled "Justice and Compassion
in Buddhist and Christian Traditions" which will run for six weeks from
June 17, 1996 - July 26, 1996. The purpose of the seminar is to investigate
whether or not important moral notions such as justice and compassion do
or do not overlap significantly in certan Buddhist and Christian traditions.
Participants will assess differing views regarding the similarities and
differences between the two traditions and will also work on individual
projects related to teaching and/or research. College faculty (from non-Ph.D.
granting departments) and independent scholars are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents for the last
three years. Participants will receive a stipend of $3200.
The application deadline is March 1, 1996.
